Welcome to my website! I’m Ronan McGovern and I am a mechanical engineer. I grew up in Newbridge, Co. Kildare and studied at University College Dublin. When I was 21, I got a scholarship to go to MIT, where I learned about membrane filtration technology and seawater desalination. After graduating in 2014, I started Sandymount Technologies – a technology platform allowing brewers to remove water from beer to make a concentrate and then add the water back – either at a bar, at home, or at a bottling plant. In late 2019, I started Point 5 Brewing – a non-alcoholic lager brand that is sold online in the US. As a brief interlude during the onset of COVID-19 in 2020, I started a hand sanitizer business – with proceeds going to charities supporting low-income families in the US.
I have made use of this blog to test drive many ideas over the years. Back when I started, I would write poems (Coin-Flip, Life Coaching). When I was at MIT, I would write for the MIT Tech newspaper. In 2016, I wrote a series of blogs on startups that I turned into an eBook on Amazon. More recently (as of 2020), I’ve started to write about my approach to investing, as well as to give more general updates on projects I’m working on.
Those who follow my writing mostly do so by e-mail. I send out a monthly newsletter summarizing my latest blogs at the end of each month, and you can sign up just here:
